'Twas the day before Christmas
and all through the house
every creature was cleaning,
right down to the mouse!
The shelves and the mantle were dusted with care,
For in a few hours, the relatives would be there!
I in my sneakers
And Mom in her jeans
Had just settled in
to the cleaning routine.
When at the front door there arose such a clatter.
I jumped and ran to see what was the matter.
And there on the stoop stood the relatives, oh my!
My mother set down her broom with a sigh.
Everyone was here, and the house was a fright.
But we all settled in to enjoy the night.
